i did my first placement at the glen facility i was so happy and got on very well with both the staff and residents i was looking forward to working with them but unfortunately something went wrong with my interview and everyone was telling me but don't worry, they'll take you anyway... instead that Friday I receive a negative email that ruined my weekend I was very sick, the last 2 weeks I didn't want to go to finish the placement but I had to do it.
The place is amazing and staff are helpful and caring to all residents.. Residents feel at home and cared by the Carers!!
I can only describe the level of care as negligent. My father was able to leave the facility with no apparent incident management in place. Police were not notified until he had been missing for over two hours.
My mother is in TCP program and we are thinking of permanent care here. There are a lot of good points about the care. However, I have noticed the that the care staff always seem to be very inexperienced. I also wonder how many registered nurses there are for each shift.
Highly reluctant to go public but second time to aged care commission and I wish I had know what I now know before placing mum here. Frontline Staff try however they are very young and inexperienced and not adequately trained or supported. Agree these Complex residents, including my mother however this is meant to be a dementia specific facility that promotes itself as being specialists in this area. Many many issues eg My mum left in feaces and urine soaked clothes for days. Despite promoting lifestyle and dementia activities and support, in realty it's non existent. In theory the easy thing to do would be to move her, however with the complexities of dementia and complete memory loss, moving to another facilty is an incredibly distressing exercise. So choose carefully
