Bupa Enfield has been a godsend. My 95-year-old Grandma needed to go into a nursing home. She started out in another home under respite care, and it was awful. There were few activities and residents were mostly left to sit and stare out windows, never allowed outside into the garden. She developed a UTI that led to delirium, but they didn't tell us it was a problem until they decided to kick her out. They didn't want someone who was acting confused in their home. We found Bupa Enfield, and they agreed to take her, even with the UTI and the behaviours that went with the delerium. Well what a wonderful choice that was. Bupa Enfield have been so supportive and so professional. Her UTI is gone and the delerium with it. There are organised activities every day, morning and afternoon. They have a Facebook group where photos and videos are shared with family and friends. I love seeing what Grandma is doing on the days that I can't visit. She is having so much fun there, today she looked wonderful, all dolled up for the Melbourne Cup Day festivities. She is making friends there and feels at home. I like that instead of large dining areas, they have small kitchens dotted throughout the facility, each designed like any kitchen in any normal house. Residents dine in groups of 8-10 in heir kitchen area, as if they were families. The staff are brilliant and bend over backward to look after my Grandma and the other residents, and they take the time to talk to me about how Grandma is doing and what she needs. There's a large protected garden area where residents can wander at any time. There's no access to the road, so those with dementia can't wander off, and the public can't just wander off. I assume that the garden started out being planted by professionals, but since then residents have taken to planting their own things, and it's more like a cottage garden. It's large and meandering, with spots to just sit and enjoy the view. All-in-all I am so pleased with Bupa Enfield and so glad that Grandma is there.
