Great team to work with , staff are amazing and truly care for the wellbeing of residents!
Awesome place to work in and the residents get beautiful care by professional carers
If it wasn't for the lovely care staff who do all the heavy lifting and deserve all the praise they get (and more), I would give only 1 star. I have found the way they operate abysmal. They cannot get the basic functions right - just to call to speak to my mother there is like dealing with a switchboard from the 50's. Particularly if you call on a weekend - oh my lord! And the accounts department do not know how to forward an invoice to state trustees for payment - apparently they don't want to get paid! The receptionist is by far the worst part about dealing with this facility. She takes it upon herself to be the "gatekeeper" and sets her own set of rules. I asked to be put on the email list for communication about Covid lockdowns and was told only one family member was allowed on the list, only to find that two of my family members were already on the email list. She has tried to dictate when I can take my mother out and for how long, which she has no right to do and certainly no clinical basis for her opinion. And I have not seen her smile once. I too have been a receptionist in aged care during Covid and I know it's hard work, but I don't empathise with someone who has clearly lost the will to provide decent and kind customer service. I don't expect someone to fall at my feet, but I just want to be treated fairly and with a shred of respect. I would avoid this facility and any associated with McKenzie Aged Care.
I am very unwell with multiple sclerosis and chronic pain, and when it became apparent that my mother, who had developed dementia, needed more care than I could possibly give her, my husband and I reluctantly admitted that it was time for us to start looking around for aged care facilities. As an only child, my mother's health, happiness and security were paramount to me, and both my husband and I wanted to make sure that my Mum was placed in a facility where the residents were treated as family and not just a number. This is where Sutton Park comes in. During a time of horrendous anticipatory grieving on my part, the sales staff were just wonderful and, as sales staff I suppose are meant to do, made this facility out to be something it wasn't. However, during the COVID outbreak, I have truly seen what this facility is about, and it is not pleasant. Very, very briefly - management rarely return calls/concerns and then abuse family that they haven't contacted management with said concerns if/when those concerns finally come to light. I have personally been gaslighted, verbally abused and/or not taken seriously when I have tried to converse with some of their staff regarding issues of concern. Most staff are lovely, but some are just downright rude and blame shifting (the facility deflects and blame others for their obvious incompetence) is rampant at this facility, made even worse with COVID and lack of staff. If you need a loved one placed in aged care (which is a nightmare of epic proportions in and of itself for family), please please PLEASE do your loved one and yourself a favour and avoid this facility and McKenzie Aged Care in general.
My grand father Tom Pollock has spent 4 years in this facility after moving down from qld, as far as he is concerned it’s a great place and they take good care of him. Thank you Sutton park
