A family member was accepted into this nursing home and transferred from hospital. Having to leave his wife was an exceptionally stressful experience especially for one with dementia. This nursing home accepted him however after a short time here they informed us he no longer had a place here, the reason of which we understood to be due to the high level of care he required. He now has had to be transferred back to hospital which is incredibly disruptive to him given his condition. We were provided a mere three days notice that this facility would be evicting him. We live in a different state to our family member and as such all communication had to be over the phone as we were acting on behalf of his wife who is also frail, elderly and having difficulty coping. We would have found it understandable for this facility to conclude that they could not provide the care that he needed had they behaved in a manner that demonstrated an ounce of compassion for our situation. We note that they are entitled to cancel his placement at any time. It doesn’t mean that we feel that they behaved with any understanding or sympathy whilst doing it. Please note our feedback has nothing to do with the wonderful staff at this facility, who seemed to us to be uncomfortable with what was being done to us. Our experience is entirely related to senior management. Senior management at this facility in our opinion had no empathy and acted in a manner we felt was aggressive and unspeakably unkind. Having worked in the service industry myself I hesitate to leave such strongly worded review as I am aware of the difficulties of engaging with the public. It is however evident to us that an attitude adjustment is required for those working in a sector that requires empathy and people skills when faced with stressful situations. Prior to coming to this facility our family member had spent weeks in hospital waiting for a bed to become available. After we were given 3 days notice that he could no longer stay, we were berated over the phone by management for not being able to find somewhere in those three days for him to go (after he had spent several weeks waiting in hospital for a bed at a nursing home to become available we felt we were aggressively chastised for not having found him something in such a short span of time). We spent several days calling everywhere we possibly could searching for a bed having to rehash the painful situation over and over again. We were told we personally could not book an ambulance for him, nor would the nursing home lift a finger to do it or even assist with the process. We were told a GP would have to do it. We could not get onto anyone to help with our situation. We spent hours on the phone going in circles. The nursing home was not willing to help us in any way. This caused extreme stress and left us distraught trying to ensure our family member had somewhere to go as we attempted to solve this from interstate. Although no terms of contract were breached we are shocked beyond words by the bedside manner of this facility and what they consider is an appropriate way to behave towards the families of the residents. A family member having to go into care is a distressing process at the best of times and this was made no easier by unsympathetic, terse and callous communications from management. Retraining required in our opinion. Do better.

Poor compliance with care plan, as if staff didn’t care about it, and appeared to be short staffed. Very good at loosing Residents clothing, and won’t take responsibility for this. Late in morning, our loved one still had food on face and hands. 😡
