The COVID lockdown restrictions have been lifted however it is compulsory that. you perform a RA test prior to entry as there has been areas placed into lock down due to cases of COVID. Visiting hours of 10am-3pm with no appointments necessary. The staff looking after my Grandmother do a great job. The on-site coffee shop is staffed by volunteers who are fabulous with the old & the young at heart. Coffee is rather awful but Nana like to drink tea anyway and sitting in the outdoor courtyard on a sunny day is a highlight for lots of families.
I called twice before the day and in the morning again. I told them I'm going to visit an friend. Nobody told me visitors must bring a "Flu Certificate". I only knew this kind "Certificate" when I was stopped at the door. I can't understand it's hot summer, not cold winter. Why in summer visitors have to visit their GP to have a flu injection before visit a friend?
My stepfather is a resident of the Beltana Dementia Unit, and the lack of qualified staff with experience in dealing with dementia patients; the lack of activities for residents; the lack of staff generally and particularly on weekends; the lack of cleaning staff on weekends; the inability of the staff to give him back his own labeled clothes from the laundry - all of these things are causing my poor mother to leave him absolutely devastated after each visit, and feeling like she is abandoning him. My mother has a background in aged care, and understands the system, and has complained fairly regularly. Each time she complains, the staff promise to fix whatever issue she has raised, and generally they do, but they don't seem to understand that EVERYONE should be getting their own clothes, everyone needs to be checked on regularly, everyone needs a level of care that is just not being provided. You would think, with the Royal Commission still going on, that aged care facilities would have smartened up their acts a bit, but it appears that even for a Lutheran facility, profit is still more important that care of the residents.
