My father has been a resident at Arcare Portalington for five years now and over the last five years, management has refused to allow his family to see him and they have refused to give any any information regarding his health and for five years, we have had no news about him at all and last week and after a heart attack, he was taken to hospital and they could not be bothered letting us know and instead we found out at 2am when the hospital doctor called us to let us know he may only live for a couple of days and I repeat, they could not be bothered letting his family know and their response was' he did not want us to tell you" yet when we dropped in at 4am , my father was that sick, he could not speak. Their lack of empathy and compassion runs deep within that home and it showed every single time we called to ask and it showed every single time we dropped in to see him and we live in Melbourne and he is in Portarlington yet they would refuse us entry and anyone reading this and while thinking about your parent there, just think what I have said which is, for five years, they have refused to allow us to see him and they have refused to give us information about his health. Also, for the last five years, he was stuck in his room with no one from lifestyle being involved to help him with his mental health and just imagine being stuck in a room 24/7 and is this what you want for your parent? And again, my father had a heart attack and letting his family about this was just too much for them...
I would like to share the wonderful experiences I have had at Arcare. My mum entered the Portarlington facility approx 2 months ago. From the time I made first contact with the caring staff at Arcare I felt very confident that it was the right place for my mums care. My mum was going through a really bad stage in her Dementia. Our family were so distressed with mums progression and felt that she would not settle anywhere. To see her so much more relaxed and settled and know she is well cared for is such a relief. She is participating in well planned activities and loving the exercise program. We have stayed for meals and found them of very good quality and a great variety. They have also put alot of thought into nutrition and making meals enjoyable. Mum loves her room and the level of cleanliness is outstanding. I can't say enough about the facilities. The cafe is great and so much thought has been put into the seating areas making them feel very homely. Everytime we visit mum we have been made to feel very welcome. It's like getting a big hug as soon as you walk in the door. Nothing is too much trouble and someone is always there to help when you need it. I would not hesitate to recommend Arcare to anyone looking for aged care. Thanks so much to the fantastic staff for your dedication and excellent care. We appreciate you. Thanks a bunch. Tracey.
As a full time carer for my mother in law for last 7 years we have placed her at Arcare for Respite over the past 3 years and this month placement became permanent as she has reached a ripe old age of 98. Our family and my mother in law have found Arcare to be a fantastic place. The staff are friendly towards all of us. They can't help us enough. Grace thinks they are absalutely fab and hard working. The facilities are second to none. The Carers and staff really believe Duty of care / Quality of care is of the utmost importance for the clients well being and every day care needs. They pop in for chats with the family and my mother in law on a daily basis. They believe that anything you need is achievable by someone their always. The facilities are amazing. Cafe for visitors, a special Dining room for family celebrations, Restaurant quality food for the residents daily. Friendly atmosphere. They have an inhouse Hairdressing salon . Nurses inhouse & a Physio also. The management are there to help you every step of the way to make the transition as smooth as possible for everyone. Now we know why its registered as 5star. If it could be more i would.
